Discreetly supporting individuals with hidden disabilities

Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport (ENWIA) is proud to offer the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program to support passengers with hidden disabilities. There are many different types of hidden disabilities.

They can include:

  • learning difficulties;
  • chronic or mental health conditions;
  • mobility;
  • speech;
  • cognitive; or
  • hearing or visual impairments.

When someone wears the Sunflower symbol it lets airport staff know they may need extra time, support or assistance while travelling.

How the program works

Without a visual sign, it can be hard for others to recognize the barriers faced by people with hidden disabilities. The Sunflower symbol helps people with non-visible disabilities move through public spaces with more confidence. It allows them to choose what they share about their non-visible disabilities, conditions or chronic illnesses.

Wearing the Sunflower lanyard is optional. If you or someone you’re travelling with has a hidden disability, you may choose to wear one. It discreetly lets airport staff know you may need more time or support when going through the airport processes.

You do not need to explain your situation. Simply wear the Sunflower and our team will offer support however you need it.

Wearing the Sunflower does not give special privileges. For example, it does not let you skip queues, get free or discounted tickets or receive priority access.

Support during your flight

If you need help during your flight, contact the airline directly. Airlines are responsible for providing in-flight assistance. Continue to request special assistance services from your airline as needed.
